Jason Dixon, 8, won the gold medal of the world championship match in February for the 8-year-old division. Jalen Mitchell, 9, lost a close match in the finals for the 9-year-old division and won a silver medal.

Their parents Naji Mitchell and Tracia McDonald said the Paterson brothers both worked hard to make it so far.

"Tracia and I are very proud of their accomplishment and look forward to their continued success," Naji Mitchell told Daily Voice, "as Jason looks to repeat as a two-time world champion next year and Jalen looks to improve on his silver and upgrade to gold."

Jalen started his training with judo when he was around 4 or 5, McDonald said. Jason started a year behind his brother and didn't take to it right away, but eventually he was hooked. Their father helped introduce them to martial arts.
